The jury in the Harvey Weinstein trial has asked the judge if they can be hung on two key charges.

The 12 jurors asked on Friday afternoon if they could be undecided on two predatory sexual assault counts.

They are the two most serious charges faced by the Hollywood producer, and could see him jailed for life if convicted.

The jury asked to be unanimous on the other three counts, including first-degree rape and criminal sexual assault, which could carry a 25 year prison term.

Judge James Burke told the seven men and five women deliberating over the case to seek consensus.

The judge said: "As I told you in my initial instructions, any verdict you return on any count, whether guilty or not guilty, must be unanimous. It is not uncommon for a jury to have difficulty initially to reach a unanimous verdict."
