The two firms are bringing their TV and streaming apps to each other’s services.

Amazon and Sky have announced a new video partnership which will see the tech firm’s Prime Video service launch on Sky while Sky’s Now TV will come to Amazon’s Fire TV devices.

The two companies said the deal means customers in the UK and Ireland will be able to watch content from across both platforms in one place for the first time over Christmas.

Amazon and Sky said it also meant users in the UK would be able to watch every live Premier League football game on Sky Sports, BT Sport and Prime Video without switching devices for the first time.

The deal sees the Prime Video app become available on Sky Q devices, where users will be able to sign into their existing Prime Video account, while the Now TV app – which gives users access to programming from Sky Atlantic and Sky Cinema, as well as live sport through Sky Sports – via the Fire TV range of streaming devices.

Emma Gilmartin, head of Fire TV in Europe said: “It just got even easier for customers to enjoy the best entertainment on Fire TV devices.

“With the launch of Now TV on our Fire TV Devices, we’re excited to bring the most talked-about and award-winning TV series, films and sport all in the easy and intuitive Fire TV experience.”

Stephen van Rooyen, chief executive of Sky in the UK and Europe said the move was an “early Christmas present” for customers.

“Anyone who needs to get stuck into something new after The Undoing on Sky Atlantic will now be able to flip right over to The Boys on Prime Video, without ever leaving Sky Q.

“Amazon Prime Video TV shows, movies and more will sit alongside Sky Originals and Netflix, as well as apps like Disney+, BBC iPlayer, Fiit and much more,” he said.

“This will make it even easier for you to access everything you love, in one place. I’m delighted that this deal will give even more people access to our brilliant Now TV and Sky Ticket apps through Amazon Fire TV devices and Fire Edition TVs.”
