11 August 2018, 16:55
The chair of Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board believes the former Foreign Secretary has "legitimised hatred" towards Muslim woman by his burka remarks.
Boris Johnson's burka comments has "fanned the flames of Islamophobia" says the chair of the Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board.
Imam Qari Asim told Tom Swarbrick that the former Foreign Secretary's comments has "legitimised the hatred that exists towards Muslim women".
Mr Johnson likened people who wear burkas as "letter boxes" or "bank robbers" in a newspaper column earlier in the week.
He said that he was against bans on face-covering veils in public places, but added that it was "ridiculous" that people chose to wear them.
