'On Syria, he's failing.' Peter Tatchell tells Matt Frei why he interrupted his friend Jeremy Corbyn's speech
Veteran campaigner Peter Tatchell interrupted a major speech by Labour leader Corbyn about human rights.
He told Matt Frei why he took the step of interrupting Corbyn’s speech - despite knowing the Labour leader well.
“Jeremy has completely ignored the appeals from civil society and democratic activists inside Syria.”
“Certainly his criticisms of Russia compared to his criticisms of Saudi Arabia and the United States have been very muted.”
“But Russia is a new neo-imperialist power. The leader of the the Labour party is supposed to oppose imperialism and he should be speaking out much more strongly against what Russia is doing in Syria today.”
