James On Why The Middle Class Are Struggling

Millions of hard-working middle class people are struggling to make ends meet, argues James O'Brien, and it's time for us to talk about it.
James was discussing a new study which shows that one-third of middle class people would struggle to pay a £500 bill if it was suddenly dropped on them.
"If you had to find five hundred quid - boom! now - a third of middle class people couldn't do it. They'd have to borrow.
"I find that frightening. Why don't we talk about things like this more?"
The LBC presenter continued: "We don't talk about things like this. We'll get cross about what other people are - or are not - doing and we'll feel a sense of lingering resentment perhaps at not having enough ourselves.
"We'll think: I should have more.
"I shouldn't be struggling.
"I shouldn't be wondering whether or not we'll be able to afford a holiday this year."
James ended on a pessimistic note: "These are the things we should be getting cross about - or at least asking questions.
"And we're not. And I don't understand why."
