Prisons Need To Get Tougher Says Man Who Served Three Sentences
29 July 2018, 17:01
A man who served three separate prison sentences across three decades says there is "no such thing as rehabilitation", and that prisons need to get tougher.
A caller who served sentences in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s says the prison service isn't tough enough on criminals.
Steve told Andrew Castle that "there is no such thing as rehabilitation" and that the best thing to help prisoners is the general public.
"They need a much tougher regime," he said.
"Back then you knew that the guy could look after himself, the prison officer.
"And if you wanted to kick off, you knew it was going to hurt."
Steve also told Andrew that while the drug itself changed over the years, it was always easy to get hold of smuggled substances.
"It's a lot easier to get drugs inside prison than it is outside," he said.
