Mississippi Governor Reveals What Donald Trump Really Thinks About Brexit

The Governor of Mississippi and friend of Donald Trump has told Nigel Farage the US President has a “strong affection” for Britain and Brexit.

Phil Bryant joined Nigel in the LBC studios while on an official visit to the United Kingdom from the US - the pair previously met during President Trump’s election campaign.

In the wide-ranging discussion, Mr Bryant explained how he expected Theresa May and the White House chief to have a relationship similar to that of Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan.

And, on Brexit, Mr Bryant revealed how President Trump had a “strong affection” for the UK's departure from the EU and was keen to put Britain ahead of the bloc when it came to a free-trade deal.

Speaking on LBC, Mr Bryant told Nigel: “I don't want to speak for the President, but I can tell you his affection for and support of Great Britain is very strong.

“We've heard him talk about it and he understands the importance of Europe and the EU, but this, this is I think is a personal affection and belief that a stronger Great Britain means a freer, more prosperous world.”

Nigel asked outright: “So, if Mrs May gets this right we can have a free-trade deal with the United States of America?”

The Governor replied saying he would be “surprised” if Mr Trump was not “eager” to iron out a US-UK trade deal ASAP.
