Three men charged over assault on Owen Jones
10 October 2019, 16:58
Three men have been charged with actual bodily harm and affray following an assault on the left-wing columnist Owen Jones outside an Islington pub in August.
James Healy, 39 of Laburnum Grove, Portsmouth, Liam tracey, 34, of Boswell Street, Camden and Charlie Ambrose, 29, of Borough Street, Brighton were charged by postal requisition.
The trio will appear at Highbury Court Magistrates Court on Wednesday 6 November.
Mr Jones had been celebrating his birthday at The Lexington public house on 17 August when he was set upon by a group of men.
Guardian editor Katherine Viner condemned the attack, which the Met Police were investigating as to whether it was a hate crime.
Ms Viner said: "At the Guardian we deplore the outrageous attack on Owen Jones. Violent assaults on journalists or activists have no place in a democratic society."
