'Racist' detective who 'carried knuckle duster' and drank on duty sacked
16 October 2019, 11:51
A Metropolitan Police officer has been sacked for using racist language and drinking booze on duty.
Detective Constable Mark Eve, based in Romford, Essex, was found guilty of a plethora of incidents which included tampering with evidence during a burglary case in 2015.
A misconduct hearing heard that Mr Eve would regularly use racist language in both direct conversations and across Whatsapp chats.
It was also found he had interviewed a suspect at their home while on bail without the proper authority and carried out surveillance without permission.
Mr Eve was found to carry three offensive weapons, and according to the BirminghamLive one of them was a knuckle duster.
The hearing was also told he stole a personal photo from the mobile phone of a female colleague and showed it to another officer.
Following a week-long hearing in front of a disciplinary panel, Mr Eve was dismissed without notice on 11 October.
Sal Naseem, from the Independent Office for Police Conduct, said: "This sort of behaviour serves only to undermine public confidence in policing and the hard work and endeavour of serving officers.
"Indeed, it was serving officers who came forward to report DC Eve's unacceptable behaviour. This is to be commended as this led to our investigation and ultimately his dismissal by the panel."
