Police officer injured in hit-and-run in Coventry

A police officer has been injured after being hit by a car in a hit-and-run in Coventry.

Police launched an investigation after the West Midlands Police officer was injured.

The officer was taken to hospital with head and leg injuries. 

The neighbourhood officer was attempting to stop a car in Holbrooks Lane, Radford, at 2.45pm.

He was run over before the vehicle made off from the scene. The car was recovered a short distance away.

An investigation is now under way to trace the driver.

Chief Supt Mike O'Hara, from Coventry Police, said: "It is completely unacceptable for a police officer to be injured in the line of duty."

"He has been taken to hospital for treatment and we await further updates on his injuries. We will be offering the officer and his family our full support. "

"Enquiries are well under way to trace the driver and I would urge them to do the right thing and come forward."

It comes weeks after PC Andrew Harper was allegedly dragged to his death by a burglary getaway van in Sulhamstead, Berkshire, on August 15.
