Piccadilly Gardens stabbing: Two injured in Manchester city centre attack

A double stabbing has taken place in Manchester's city centre with streets closed off amid a huge police presence.
The incident took place in Piccadilly Gardens near Morrisons supermarket. Staff in a nearby company told workers to remain inside the building until the situation was "under control", according to the MEN.
There has been a large police response and two people - reportedly a father and son - are being treated for stab wounds.
Both victims are believed to have received minor injuries.
Oldham Street remains cordoned off near the supermarket.
Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: "At around 12.10pm today (Monday 10 February 2020), police were called to reports of an assault on Piccadilly, Manchester City Centre. Emergency services are currently in attendance.
"One man has been taken to hospital with injuries which aren’t believed to be life-threatening. Another man is receiving treatment at the scene for minor injuries.
"An investigation is underway although officers are currently treating this as a targeted attack. There is no threat to the wider community.
"No arrests have been made."
An eyewitness told the MEN: "It happened very quickly just outside Morrisons it just kicked off.
"They were wearing hoods. The guy who was attacked seemed to be fitting. It seemed like five or six people involved in total."
Members of the public are being asked to avoid the area and there are a number of road closures in place.
