Newborn baby boy found abandoned in east London

A newborn baby boy has been found abandoned near a main road in Hackney, east London.
Officers were alerted by a member of the public at around 11:40am on Saturday.
The infant was found in a grey babygrow and hat on Sandringham Road, just off the busy Kingsland Road.
He had also been wrapped up in a white knitted blanket.
Police have since checked the baby and say he appears to have been outside of a hospital environment.
He is now being cared for at an east London hospital after being attended to by the London Ambulance Service.
The Metropolitan Police have made an appeal to his mother, asking her to come forward so that she can also receive medical care and support.
Inspector Kevin Weeks said: "I would urge the mother of this baby to make contact either with police, your local hospital or GP surgery and let us know that you are safe and can receive any medical care you may need.
"Our primary focus is to ensure the wellbeing of both you and your child.
"I would also urge anyone who has information that could help us to reunite this baby with his mother to come forward."

It comes as Hampshire Police expressed "extreme concern" for the mother of a different newborn baby who was found dead in a Portsmouth street.
The infant was discovered shortly after 6:15am on Saturday at the junction of Victoria Street and Old Commercial Road.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Baker directly appealed to the mother, saying he understood she "may be frightened" but that it was vital she contacted the police.
