Mini cabinet reshuffle: Boris Johnson appoints new ministers
10 September 2019, 21:19
Boris Johnson has announced the latest cabinet reshuffle following a week of Brexit-induced resignations.
The prime minister has promoted several backbenchers to ministerial roles in the wake of high-profile Tories leaving the party.
International Trade Secretary Liz Truss has been made Women and Equalities Minister, replacing Amber Rudd, who quit the cabinet at the weekend.
Mr Johnson has also promoted Zac Goldsmith to Joint Environment and International Development Minister.
Minister for Health Chris Skidmore has been moved back to a Joint Education and Business Role, replacing Boris Johnson's brother Jo Johnson after he resigned earlier this week.
Edward Agar has been moved from the Ministry of Justice to the Department of Health and Social Care, and Rebecca Pow switches from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
Their previous posts have been taken by Tory backbenchers Chris Philp and Helen Whately, both first elected in 2015, taking on their first ministerial roles.
Mr Philp is now a justice minister and Ms Whately a culture minister.
