Jet2.com has been branded "disgusting greedy b***ards" after allegedly trebling prices following the collapse of travel giant Thomas Cook.

The company went into liquidation on Monday, leaving more than 150,000 customers stranded in foreign countries worldwide and sparking the greatest repatriation operation the UK has ever seen.

But people have now accused other companies of 'taking advantage' of the situation to hike up their own prices.

People hoping to book a flight with Jet2 to replace their one with Thomas Cook were left sorely disappointed after discovering the cost had surged following the announcement.

James Dunkerley complained Jet2.com trebled the price of his trip to Menorca in a single day.

He tweeted: ‘Paid for two fights to Menorca with Barclaycard and they’ve told me to contact Thomas Cook. Tried another flight with Jet2 and £47 yesterday £145 today. How are they allowed to do this?’

Olivia Howett said: Absolutely disgusting from Jet2 within the space of an HOUR they’ve doubled the price of flights following the news of Thomas Cookcollapsing. Yet another Typical greedy airline."

Others were more vocal with their disgust, with one angry user saying: "Pardon my French.. But f**k you TUI and Jet2. Why have you increased your prices by over £100-£150 for flights to Crete.

"You want to profit from other people's wish to have the holiday they dreamed of who'd Booked with TC. That's 4 friends priced out of a family holiday."

Jay Bell called Jet2.com a "disgusting greedy b****rd".

He took to social media after learning some Thomas Cook hotels in Turkey are threatening to prosecute hotels who throw guests out over Thomas Cook not paying the fees.

He said: "Meanwhile.... in England, Jet2 and others are more than tripling prices! Disgusting greedy b****rd. Respect to Turkey.; That country has gone way up in my estimations."

As well as the 150,000 people being stranded abroad, 21,000 Thomas Cook staff - 9,000 in the UK -are also facing redundancy.
