Fallon Sherrock makes history as first woman to beat a man at darts world championship

Fallon Sherrock has made history after becoming the first woman to beat a man at the darts world championship.

The 25-year-old mum was left speechless after defeating Ted Evetts 3-2 during the PDC championship at Alexandra Palace.

She was one of only two female players at the tournament, up against 94 men.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Sherrock said she plans to donate the board used for her victory to the National Autistic Charity to flog at an auction.

While on the show, she showed off her skills to beat presenter Piers Morgan at a game of darts.

She said: “I have proved that we can play the men and we can beat them.

“I can't believe what I achieved last night I'm so happy. I always had the game but us women have never had the opportunity to prove it.”

Ms Sherrock spoke to LBC's James O'Brien following her historic win.

Sherrock, a former BDO Women's World Championship runner-up, recovered from losing the opening set to beat Evetts - scoring some six 180s with a match average of just over 91 in their first-round contest.

After the win, she told Sky Sports Darts: "I'm speechless, I don't know what to say.

"I feel really happy because I have proven something for women's darts, that women can play the men and beat them, so fingers crossed this is a move in the right direction."

Evetts had lost his throw in the opening leg of the deciding set, as Sherrock - cheered on by the vocal support at a packed Alexandra Palace - moved 2-0 ahead.

The 22-year-old held his next arrows - but another big score from Sherrock left her with three match darts at double 18.

Sherrock took a second match dart to write her name into the history books and will go on to face Mensur Suljovic, the 11th seed, in round two.
