Extinction Rebellion: Stanley Johnson proud to be an "uncooperative crusty"
9 October 2019, 17:55
The prime minister’s father has said he supports Extinction Rebellion and is proud to call himself an “uncooperative crusty”.
Boris Johnson previously referred to Extinction Rebellion activists as “uncooperative crusties” as they embark on a two-week rebellion, blocking major roads in central London through demonstrations.
Stanley Jonson however told Global's Newsroom he was proud to be part of the "uncooperative crusties".
"As far as I'm concerned I'm going to wear that badge with pride," he added
"I don't take it as an insult. I love colourful language - it's what keeps us all going. If you want to get a message across you've got to say something interesting."
When challenged on his membership of the "Conservative Party of law and order", Mr Johnson said from his discussions with Extinction Rebellion leaders, it had been made "absolutely clear" to him that they have "no wish to break the law".
He said he's not there to break the law and neither is the organisation [Extinction Rebellion].
"You're not law-breaking until you've been found guilty of breaking the law. Am I not right about that?" said Mr Johnson, in response to a question on the number of protesters that have been arrested for their actions.
When asked if he would be willing to glue himself to anyone or be arrested in the name of Extinction Rebellion, Mr Johnson said, "I wouldn't give a definitive no to that. I am not willing to break the law."
Speaking about the climate change movement, Mr Johnson said "what we are seeing is an extraordinary acceleration of technological solutions, which will be driven by Cabinet and investment."
He alluded to the fact that there will be "lively conversations" at the Johnson dinner table about the issue.
