A406 closed for another day after drivers rescued from their flooded vehicles

A dual carriageway in north London remains closed after a burst pipe caused severe flooding and forced drivers to abandon their vehicles.

The North Circular Road (A406) is still closed at Brent Cross due to the flooding from Hendon Way to Brent Street on Monday.

There is still a closure on the westbound carriageway between Henlys Corner to Staples Corner, while a short diversion is in place for eastbound traffic by the A41 roundabout.

Further traffic delays are reported for motorists near the Neasden, Hendon, Colindale, Cricklewood, Golders Green and Finchley areas.

Shocking videos and photos of the incident on Monday showed parts of the road completely submerged, with at least two vehicles abandoned, including a Ferarri.

One social media user posted photographs of the flooding, writing: "Brent Cross has become Venice."

Firefighters rescued at least eight motorists trapped inside their car.

Thames Water released a statement on Tuesday confirmed their engineers had been working "through to the night" to repair a burst pipe that led to the flooding.

It added: "We’d like to apologise if your water was affected – we know how worrying and inconvenient this can be.

"We believe all supplies should be back to normal. 

"We’re sorry too if your journey was disrupted. We’re working with Transport for London to get the fix completed and the road surface repaired as soon as possible."

Police have confirmed that no one was injured during the incident.
