Ben Stokes' wife defends cricketer over ‘squishing each other’s faces’

The wife of England cricket hero Ben Stokes has responded after pictures emerged showing him seemingly with his hands around her face, saying they were just ‘messing about’

Political blog Guido Fawkes published behind the scenes photographs of the couple at an event on Wednesday before they left the venue.

The pair had been attending the Professional Cricketers’ Association Awards 50th Anniversary party at the Roundhouse in Camden when the pictures were taken.

Taking to Twitter, Clare Stokes said: "Unbelievable what nonsense these people will make up!

"Me and Ben messing about squishing up each other’s faces cos that’s how we show affection and some pap tries to twist it in to a crazy story!

"And all before we then have a romantic McDonalds 20 mins later!"

Mr Stokes then seconded his wife's comments, retweeting her words with a "kissing" emoji.
