A road in Mayfair was put into lockdown amid fears a man who collapsed and died in the street had been poisoned.

Photos and videos from the scene showed a large police and ambulance presence on Albemarle Street at 3:14pm.

A large cordon was put in place over concerns the man, who suffered a cardiac arrest, had been exposed to poison.

"Sadly, despite our efforts, a man died at the scene," an ambulance spokesman added.

Scotland Yard said it sent specialist crews to investigate the scene but found no evidence of poison.

A Met Police spokesman said: "Due to concerns the victim may have been exposed to a poison, specialist officers attended but found no evidence that would indicate the victim had been poisoned.

"There are no other reports of people being taken ill."

The road remains closed.
