Tommy Robinson is a far-right campaigner, who is currently awaiting a hearing over contempt of court.
Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was jailed for contempt of court after revealing the names of defendants in a grooming ring court case, but was later released on appeal. His re-hearing has been referred to the Attorney General.
Born in Luton in 1982, Robinson rose to prominence as the co-founder and leader of the English Defence League. In 2015, he became involved in the anti-Islam group Pegida.
He has attracted a big following for his role in campaigning against Pakistani grooming gangs and Donald Trump's former Strategist Steve Bannon called him "the backbone of this country" during an angry exchange on LBC.
After qualifying as an aircraft engineer, Robinson lost his job when he was convicted of assaulting an off-duty police officer, for which he was jailed for 12 months. In January 2013, Robinson was jailed for 10 months for travelling to the USA on his friend’s passport. A year later, he was sentenced to prison for 18 months for committing mortgage fraud with the crime dating back to 2009.
Robinson got married in 2011 and is the father of three children.
