Owen Smith Talks Tough On Momentum In LBC Interview
16 September 2016, 18:15 | Updated: 19 September 2016, 16:18
Labour leadership contender Owen Smith joined Iain Dale in the LBC studio as he battles to replace Jeremy Corbyn as leader of the party.
After earlier saying that Labour should consider banning Momentum, Smith was put on the spot by Iain Dale who asked if he was leader, would Smith ban Momentum from the party?
"Would you make them a proscribed organisation in the Labour Party?" asked Iain.
"My view is we don't need parties within parties," said Smith. "I would absolutely want to not see their body that is organising within Labour, in order to de-select decent Labour MPs just because they've got the temerity to do what Jeremy Corbyn did for 35 years and disagree with their leader.
"He spent 30 odd years disagreeing with the leadership, now he's the leader he thinks that's a capital crime."
