30 October 2019, 07:54
The victim of a "deliberately started" fire in an Islington flat has been named as 59-year-old Beatrice Yankson.
Ms Yankson was found dead on the second floor of her flat Mingard Walk just after midday on Saturday.
A post-mortem revealed she died from burns and smoke inhalation.
A man believed to be in his 30s, who is thought to be her son, was also found in the properties and was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
Ms Yankson's death is being treated as murder but no arrests have yet been made.
Detectives have appealed for any information which may help the investigation.
DCI Paul Considine said: “We believe this fire was started deliberately which is why it is being investigated as a murder.
“Our thoughts are with Beatrice’s family, and we are working hard to understand the series of events which led to her death.
“We would like to thank the residents of the block, who were evacuated as a precaution and who have provided assistance to officers so far.”
Anyone with information should call the incident room number on 020 8345 3865 quoting Operation Rushville.
