Top cop pleads for help to 'catch the scum' who burgled and hurt pensioner
5 March 2020, 06:19
A top police officer has urged the public to help "catch the scum" who burgled a 93-year-old woman and left her injured and ignore the "no-grass culture nonsense"
Andy Cooke, Chief Constable of Merseyside Police, branded the night-time break-in at the pensioner's home in Liverpool as "horrendous".
Police released photographs of bruising to the victim's face caused by masked offenders who struck at the property in Herm Road, Vauxhall, at about 2.25am on Wednesday.
The offenders broke in while the pensioner was asleep and one of the men placed his hand over the woman's mouth to stop her crying out for help.
A quantity of cash was taken from the house.
Police said the unnamed woman was "badly shaken" and taken to hospital suffering from shock and facial injuries.
An investigation is under way and house-to-house, forensic and CCTV inquiries are being carried out in the local area.
Tweeting about the incident, Mr Cooke said: "This is horrendous. Please help us catch the scum who did this.
"And don't give me any of that no grass culture nonsense. This is a 93 year old woman in her own house who should be afforded respect and dignity.
"Someone knows who did this."
