Four arrested over killing of man in aggravated burglary
15 January 2020, 22:57
Four men have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a 66-year-old man in Leicestershire.
The group of four - including two 20-year-olds, one aged 21 and another aged 19 - were arrested in Buckland Road, Leicester, on Wednesday evening.
Police confirmed they had been detained in connection with the death of Howard Staff.
The victim was at home in Gibson Close, Wigston, at 3:45pm on Monday when someone entered his house and assaulted him.
Mr Staff suffered chest injuries and later died in hospital in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Detective Inspector Jonathan Blockley, of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said the inquiry was "very much ongoing."
"One of our lines of inquiry surrounds the movement of a black Volkswagen Passat and a silver Kia Sorento," he added.
"I would, therefore, like to speak to anyone who saw either of these vehicles in Wigston on Monday. If you have dashcam footage from your own vehicle, please get in touch.
"This was a crime committed for monetary gain and, sadly, has led to a man losing his life.
"We owe it to Mr Staff's family to find the person or people responsible and I would ask anyone who believes they have information, no matter how insignificant you think it may be, to contact police."
Officers said the attacker was unknown to Mr Staff.
The victim's family has asked for privacy.
