Britain now has more than 12,500 million pound streets, analysis finds

Britain has more than 12,500 million pound streets, where properties are typically worth at least seven-figure sums, according to a website.

The total figure comes to 12,541, according to calculations from Zoopla.

The South East of England has the most million pound streets, at 4,707, putting it ahead of London which has 4,523.

At the other end of the spectrum, there are 27 million pound streets in Wales – which is a fraction of the number situated in some Home Counties towns which are popular with London commuters.

For example, there are 116 million pound streets in Harpenden in Hertfordshire and 183 in Guildford in Surrey, the research found.

Grainne Gilmore, head of research at Zoopla said: “Zoopla data shows where housing stock and prime locations converge to create some of the most expensive addresses in the UK.

“Clusters of expensive homes are not unusual as the cachet of an area starts to create an appeal of its own, which can factor into what a home is really worth.

“London dominates the country’s prime property market, but it is being challenged by the South East in terms of the number of million pound streets, reflecting the rise in demand and pricing seen in this market, as well as its housing stock mix and its geographical size.”

For the 12th year in a row, Kensington Palace Gardens in west London was identified by Zoopla as Britain’s most expensive street, with the average home there priced at £35,991,500.
