Abuse In Boarding Schools: Alex Renton Talks To James

Alex Renton's book Stiff Upper Lip covers his own experience of abuse in boarding school and looks at how widespread the problem is. James O'Brien met him in the LBC studio and it made for a compelling, troubling interview.
James has several close friends who suffered abuse at the hands of teachers and talked about their experiences with the writer and journalist.
Renton's research points up how much of an issue it is: "It's almost as though there was a manual for how to run a private school and how to cover up scandal," he told James.
"The toleration was there...it's pretty clear that some people have slightly sidelined their sexual abuse because the neglect and the psychological abuse that arises just from being sent away from love at eight years old was more damaging."
