The Royal family are the close relatives of The King, and form the line of succession to the British throne. Members of the Royal Family have belonged, by birth or marriage, to the House of Windsor since 1917, under the reign of George V. When Queen Elizabeth died last year, her eldest son and heir, the former Prince Charles, automatically became King Charles, and the line of succession shifted.
